Portraits in the live environment

So lighting against a plain backdrop is nice and straightforward. Light at 45 degrees, light the background, bit of hairlight etc etc .... but that isn't what looks good. Lighting in a live environment is somewhat different. Colours, objects, shadows, numerous ambient light sources - add lack of room , inability to get any distance between you and your subject and its a struggle. A 120cm octabox helped, the softbox helped but in the end... a s little photoshop was still needed.

A clinical environment makes for harsh shadows.

Warm colours give warm light but the need to use high ISO and as high a F stop as possible causes issues.
